Brand new academy at New Theatre Peterborough

Exciting times lay ahead for Peterborough as the New Theatre, now operated by Selladoor Venues, launch the New Theatre Academy in partnership with TOP Theatre Productions.

The New Theatre Academy (NTA) will begin the first term from January 2020 with two fantastic taster sessions plus opportunities to enrol before the year is out. Utilising the expertise of local theatre production company TOP Theatre Productions and Selladoor’s touring show contacts, the NTA provides experiences unrivalled by any other youth theatre in the region.

The NTA will work throughout the year, building towards showcases and productions that will take place on the newly refurbished New Theatre stage – to an auditorium of over 1000 seats.

For those wishing to take their musical theatre sessions a step further, the NTA also provide dedicated LAMDA sessions, working towards exams. Equally, for those not wishing to pursue a career in performing arts, this is the perfect opportunity to make new friends, create new memories and build on personal confidence.

The New Theatre Academy is truly for everyone, regardless of experience. Sessions will be tailored towards ages and requirements with three age groups; 4-7y/o, 8-11 y/o and 12y/o and over.

Selladoor Worldwide produce a host of West End and international touring productions including 9 to 5 the Musical, Avenue Q and the Queen musical We Will Rock You. Open to everyone, the first two taster sessions will be working with cast and creative members of two of Selladoor’s biggest shows – Madagascar the Musical and Fame the Musical.

These masterclasses are not only unique to NTA but will often form the basis of regular sessions to academy members. Register your interest to take part in our Madagascar masterclass on Sunday 6 October (for ages 7-12) or our Fame masterclass on Saturday 30 November (for ages 11-18) by going online to newtheatreacademy.com. The cost of the sessions also includes tickets to see the respective shows!

New Theatre Director, Richie Ross said “it’s very exciting to think that the New Theatre Academy could see the next leading lady or leading man especially with our connections with professional, international touring shows. We want to open doors not available in Peterborough, with access to arts professionals who will lead the sessions plus industry experts who are actually working out on the road.”

Darren Maddison from TOP Theatre Productions said “We are delighted to be working in partnership with New Theatre Peterborough to create a brand new youth theatre for the young people of Peterborough and surrounding areas. We are excited to be able to hold weekly classes that will give members a host of benefits including, masterclasses from touring professional shows and other great opportunities. We can’t wait to welcome everyone in January.”
