🔦 Spotlight On: BLOOD BROTHERS

This week we’ve welcomed Bill Kenright LTD’s production of Blood Brothers to the New Theatre stage & audiences certainly are loving it!
We think this brilliantly written review by Steve Healey on behalf of Hive FM really summed up just what keeps audiences coming back time after time to see this classic show:

It is always a pleasure to take in a show at The New Theatre in Peterborough. It combines a sleek and modern aesthetic whilst still maintaining an art deco flourish reminiscent of it’s 80 year history as a cinema.

The experience begins when you are welcomed by the staff and guided into the 1079 seater auditorium! It is truly immense! When taking your seat there is ample leg room meaning there is not much need to do that leaning back motion when people on your aisle need an ice-cream.

The diverse range of shows means there is something for everyone. From the rock musical lovers to fans of comedy and dance. Overall the experience of visiting is always a positive one and the venue stands out as the place to be for a fantastic evening.

Now, on to the show. I recently popped along to see Blood Brothers at The New Theatre in Peterborough. Where do I start?! The last time I saw this show was in 2005 and I was stunningly reminded of how brilliant it is.

Blood Brothers is the story of two brothers, separated at birth, who keep accidently finding each other as there lives unfold.
Sean Jones in the role as Mickey has been a part of this show for 26 years! He manages to seamlessly transition from an excitable horse riding 5 year old to a chronically depressed adult, what would appear, almost effortlessly! I say almost because the physicality of the role is very demanding but he still keeps that same level of energy all the way though.
Joe Sleight in the role of Eddie balances his character’s upper class upbringing with his determination and love for his friends in a way that shows Eddie develop strongly from young boy to young man from start to finish.
Vivienne Carlyle is an absolute powerhouse playing Mrs Johnstone! The emotion delivered through her performance and voice is nothing short of amazing. She portrays her characters resilience, loyalty and courage, not just believably but beautifully.
A personal stand out moment for me in this show was, whilst maintaining its musical status, it is uniquely constructed in such a way that, as a spectator, you are fully immersed in the narrative. And that is credited towards the entire cast, crew and band.
I would highly recommend this show to any fans and infact not fans of musicals! It’s more than a show on a stage. It’s an important story set in a moment in history of great political and socioeconomic importance.
